Improvising a Creative Career with Substack Bestseller Beth Spencer of the Introvert Drawing Club

+ How to limit social media to focus on your art

Hello, Protagonists!

Welcome back to the CREATIVE.INSPIRED.HAPPY Podcast, an interview series with incredibly successful writers about how they rose out of obscurity to build fulfilling careers. With each episode, I hope you'll learn something to make you more creative, inspired, or happy!

My guest today is Beth Spencer, a picture book author-illustrator, photographer, and founder of the staggeringly popular Introvert Drawing Club, an online community of 7,000 members she leads in ultra-relaxed drawing sessions.

But that’s not the only reason I invited her here today. I chose Beth for you because she is a wonderfully gentle leader who truly cares for her community, and I think you’ll be inspired by her path in art and writing.

Selection of picture books, open to show drawings of animals and babies

Today we talk about how Beth succeeded in building a bestselling Substack platform although she didn’t know what she was doing when she started, how to find fulfillment in your work, and tips for getting started in a creative pursuit, even if you’ve been told your whole life that creativity wasn’t for you.

Tell us: Are you an extrovert or introvert?

I hope you enjoy the show!1
